Last night we really saw what a wonderful and warm community we have at The Bicester Learning Academy as Glory Farm Primary School held our Carols by Candlelight evening.
Despite a little flurry of rain, nobody was deterred from enjoying the various stalls outside and refreshments in the hall. Excited children had the opportunity to visit Father Christmas in his amazing grotto and then came the icing on the cake, as everyone gathered for the Carols by Candlelight. Led by Mrs Black, Mrs McLachlan and our wonderful children’s choir, the singing took place out at the back of the school, by light of the children’s ‘candles’ and the amazing lanterns, all made by the children themselves. Voices filled the playground and everyone joined in and displayed a wonderfully warm Christmas spirit.
The evening was particularly poignant as it was also an opportunity for everyone to say a fond farewell to Mr Elkington who is leaving us for pastures new. The parents and children presented him with a leaving card and gifts which he was keen to open on the spot and thank everyone for. Mr Baxter, Executive Headteacher of the Bicester Learning Academy also thanked Mr Elkington for everything he had done for Glory Farm Primary school and for the Academy. Speaking of the special relationship he has had with Mr Elkington, he illustrated the strong partnership and the ongoing ethos of both schools that would continue and thanked Mr Elkington for being a huge part of establishing this since the Academy has been formed.
The evening ended with all of the staff performing a fun filled rendition of Partridge in a Pear Tree, encouraging everyone, including Mr Elkington, to join in with the actions.
Thank you to everyone who came and to the dedicated staff, parents and pupils who organised such a lovely event.
